Always Visible Round Timer#239

I would like to be able to see how long I have left in the round the entire round. As it stands now I always feel like I have to rush last minute but If I could see how much time I have left the entire round it would help with time managment.

Timer should be on screen always like valorant, so I know how much time left for me or enemy. I don’t want to see a bar in side suddenly. I don’t want to use a stop-watch on phone lol

I think this would be a very bad idea.
Imagine having a timer with moving numbers while you are trying to make a decision about where to move a piece.
I think most people would get hung up on the timer, and forget about the game they are playing.

In addition I think the timer fluctuates, I think the amount of time you have per turn changes and the game gets nearer the end.
And one way to help players make faster decisions is to pressure them with that bar.

My main thoughts about not showing this here was that seeing a number counting down can be stressful. Also, we want to really minimize what we have on the UI, so we only want to add elements that really deserve it.

I think that over time, you intuitively know about how much time you have left, so this would be more for new players (whom probably won’t see it because new players don’t see or understand much more important parts of the UI).

These, along with the fact that Hearthstone doesn’t show it, makes me think were probably best off not adding this.

But doesn’t Hearthstone have a visible timer? At least while making decisions outside of combat?

Also legends of runterra doesn’t have an always visible timer but the timer resets after each action you take on your turn so it never really feels rushed.

The idea to get a bit of extra time for each action you take is discussed in #309 if you want to discuss it there. It probably doesn’t help to start a discussion about it here, since this discussion is exclusively about visibility. Reading other responses it appears that the design team doesn’t want to do anything that compromises the miniatures-first aesthetic (which makes sense, since that is what gives the game its unique appeal), so adding UI clutter is probably a non-starter for them.

It sounds like the main problem is running out of time by surprise on your turn (at least, that is how I ended up here), and there is definitely more than one way to solve that problem.
