Zoom out option during match#235

Y

It would be nice if there was a way to zoom out during the match to fully see the board. Alot of times folks just put pieces out of view and thus out of mind. (in addition to the scrolling option). IF this already existis it would be nice if there was a clear indication of that option (like a magnifying glass icon or something)

I agree with this, the where the camra is now is uncomfitable for me and i would really like to see the board as a whole when planing my moves

yes, whole board and full rotation would be amazing.

I definitely occasionally ‘lose’ pieces off the edge of the map, and sometimes have trouble visualizing how different off-screen units relate positionally because I can’t fit them all in my field of view like I could at a tabletop. I think one of the challenges with having a digital screen showing what would normally be a tabletop mini is that you need it zoomed in further to look ‘right’, but when you play on a tabletop your peripherals pick everything up so you get the context that you need.

I would love to see a ‘zoom’ option analogous to the current ‘peek’ options, where you can hold a key down to get a temporary birds-eye view of the battlefield. It should come back when you release though, otherwise you just end up playing fully zoomed out and it doesn’t feel like minis anymore.

I don’t think full rotation is necessary, since the maps don’t really have much in the way of obstacles, and I haven’t ever had my line-of-sight really blocked, but a wider angle ‘peek’ (maybe 30-45 degrees?) would be nice, since the current one doesn’t actually change the angle enough to actually give you a different perspective.

Two other ways I could think of to solve this issue:

Small arrows on the borders with the troops icon might indicate off-screen units.

Some kind of top down minimap.
Edit: Minimap could also show line of sight indicators when moving etc.
