And idea for future. This would immitate StarCraft 2 style in-game tournament hosting where the tournament rules are etched to the client for easy and quick way to host and play, would it be big tournaments or weekend funtime with friends, to see who won and tie breakers and victory point scoring etc etc what you would make the tournament count towards. (VP count, SoS etc etc)
So here is the idea with grued mock images.
New tab in the Play Section where it shows Tournament tab. Clicking that tab brings you to new window where you can Join, Create, Info, History and Playerbase.
Join Feature would work like the searching for normal game. There are public tournaments and private ones with password. Simple. You select your captain and roster, then click confirm if you wanan use the captain and you are off to the tournament.
Create Tournament. You click it and see the options for the types that are supported ingame, like Swiss, Top Cut. Double Elimination, Swiss + Top Cut All with clear cut rules (that would be in the Tournament Info where you go to see the rules for each preset, I.e. Swiss 4-8 players = 3 rounds. 9-16 = 4 rounds. 17-31 5 rounds etc) and Custom has everything you can customise from the victory condition to banned crew etc.
Your History is to see how many tournaments you have participated and the games you played there with Win/Loss % and Playerbase History is the top X Tournament players of Weekly Tournaments.
Also BIG adverticement for Weekly/Bi-Weekly tournament hosting be community/You Guys.

Think if it were all done ingame itd definitely be easier to work with compared to having to deal with outside stuff
