Extilior NEEDS Battlefield manipulation#1077

I love playing Extilior. By far my favorite hero.

HOWEVER, the most ∗∗∗ AWFUL FRUSTRATING thing is having NO battlefield manipulation. Without Vortex or Displacement beam ship assist he is absolutely CRIPPLED. Having a unit with a similiar ability (crankbait/chuck) does NOT cut it.

Extilior CANNOT be competitive without one or the other and that is a HUGE problem that NEEDS to be fixed.

Storytime:
Being boxed and bodied by a Zax with vortex and a peacemaker balam is the dumbest ish. For real. Play a game against a Zax who just vortexs ALL your units in single spot and then continues to stun + mine them every. single. turn. It doesn’t matter where I drop my units and my ONLY option to save myself from this strategy comes in the form of a ship assist I DONT HAVE ACCESS TO.

As you can tell from the caps, I am SUPER frustrated. I am one of the 40-ish average players left playing. I want this game to succeed but I’m hanging on by a thread because of accumulated frustrations like this.

Hey Mako. Sorry about the frustration. That’s part of the deal with early access but I know that doesn’t make it any less painful.

We’re almost certainly going to allow you to choose any ship assist you want, so that will help Extilior a lot. But not sure when that will go in exactly.

I can see that we still have some more work to do on Extilior. I’m not sure if the right fix is to give him some movement ability (we’ve talked about a running-straight-line-move) or if the problem is in Vortex. But I’ll put our balance team on this and see what we can do. It sounds like a big problem!

No apologies needed Charlie, the frustration is no one’s fault and I totally agree it 100% comes with the EA territory. Knowing the feedback is being seen and heard makes things immensely less painful! Thank you!

  • I am a huge fan of vortex/displacement ship assists regardless of which captain I play. They have low cool downs and great potential for combo plays. Whether it be pulling an enemy closer to Extilior or splitting up a group of allies to avoid a Peacemaker stun, these ship assists have a lot of ‘2 birds - 1 stone’ uses. These are my main tools for turning the tides of battle and making impactful, out of pocket plays. (bonus points for feeling like literal assistance from our ships)

  • I can understand how giving Extilior a movement ability might not be the right choice and to an extent I agree. As a totally biased player towards Extilior what makes and breaks his matches aren’t necessarily his ability to move but the players ability to move the battlefield. I will take the Stim SA if I can’t get either the Vortex/Displacement but I rarely choose the +50% movement increase over either. I think this is because its not Extiliors own movement potential that’s the issue ~ the issue is the relative ease with which people can effectively box him out. No hard feelings towards the players, that’s an excellent application of tactical knowledge. However, i feel without those 2 ship assists Extilior is left with little to no counterplay to this strategy.

  • Crankbait and Chuck would theoretically be good characters to sub in for a battlefield manipulation role but in practicality I find most players who are experienced enough to box out Extilior are also experienced enough to kill/lockdown Crank or Chuck before they get a chance to act.

  • Thanks again Charlie! Happy Holidays to you and the Team!
