Simple Single Player Puzzle Challenges#1031

Speaking as a new player, the current unboarding for the game is really unpleasant. I’m pretty sure there is a game under the hood I’m going to love if I can get to a point of understanding how to play it, but there doesn’t seem to be a smooth way of getting there. I’m told the idea of a single player campaign mode has already been thrown out entirely, but perhaps something simpler might work just as well, if not better.

Basically my thought is have a series of single player “puzzles” where you’ve given 1-3 units and an objective (similar to the parts of the tutorial), each of which is meant to be both enjoyable, and informative, as to clear them you need to either master a basic concept of the game, or make use of the unique strengths of at least 1 of the units. Could start with just a few based on the core concepts of attacking/hiding/etc, but then have unit specific ones, and keep adding them, eventually having at least one challenge which highlights each unit, such that a new player can go through these challenges and in so doing, not just hopefully have fun, but with out trying, learn key concepts in both positioning, when to attack/fall back, and what makes each unit special/fun to use.

This is just one suggestion, but the underlying core of this suggestion is that new player onboarding really REALLY is lacking right now, I think in large part do to the lack of that cancelled single player mode that most games of this type use to ease new players in, so this is really a request for anything that can better help new players get their feet wet before they start getting stomped as I am in pvp.

Thanks for all that, Dan. We’re taking a big pass at this now. I’m not sure if we’ll end up with “Puzzles” or not, but we’ll definitely be fleshing out the whole onboarding and making it a lot smoother, easier and directed.
